Remember when “some” of us retired from STRS but still intended to keep on teaching? We found out in SDAFA sponsored workshops that STRS allowed it. For those of us working at SDCCD, we reminded anyone wanting to do it that they had to write all over the District form “Will continue teaching”????
The District has now changed their form to recognize this possiblity. See attached or rather use this link to see it.
https://www.sdccd.edu/…/Retirement_Resignation_Separation%2…
and you will see:
Retirement from STRS ONLY2 . Option available to adjunct faculty only. Plan to continue working for the District as a working retiree3 . First day of retirement: __________
wish we would get credit when we bring about change, but that has been happenng to me for decades at SDCCD.
I just had my EDD Benefits Interview and made a point of asking about our pensions. There has been a bit of confusion about it. Here is the answer.
1. When you are applying for unemployement, YES, report the pension and make sure, if you find a place to do this, make a point of saying that you paid into STRS, PERS, etc.
2. When you do the weekly certification and they ask you if you received any money, do NOT report the pensions, such as STRS that you paid in to.
3. If you do have a phone interview, you will find that these people are quite use to our pensions so I go ahead and bring the subject up, again emphasizing that I paid in to STRS.
In Summary: Applying? Yes, report it Weekly certification? NO
Thank you for this update. I am contemplating retirement in the not-so-distant future, so this is helpful.
