Finding a full time Community College teaching job: From the August 2018 Academic Senate for the Community Colleges of California, this is Part 2 of 4 (From the recollections of Carlynne Allbee):
2) Geography: Where are you applying? If you are applying at your own college, you wouldn’t think of this, but one of the speakers told us about two common, too common mistakes people make:
a) Where is the college located? Don’t apply, for example, at a school in Northern California if you would only consider working in Southern California. Go to the trouble of looking the college up on a map. For example, I always thought Foothills College was in the San Fernando / Simi Valley general area northwest of Los Angeles. Turns out it is in what I would refer to as the San Francisco Bay area.
b) When you write your cover letter, make sure you are addressing it to the correct college. For example, Dear Mesa College would be fine if the job is at Mesa College, but not if it is at City College.
